Great thoughts. Very clear and to the point. I agree that many church-goers view worship music either as a performance designed to entertain them, or even worse a buffer to allow enough people to turn up for the main sermon. Attitude towards worship singing definitely needs to change if we want to worship God through song.

The town I grew up in was culturally uncultured. :) What I mean by this is that I was never exposed to different cultures, really, because all the african americans I knew/went to school with, I could count on one hand.I had a black nanny when I grew up (was she treated anything like the ones in the movie, no way! She was and always will be like my 2nd mom.
Moving to Greensboro right out of high school was a huge wake up call for me. I learned the hard way that maybe I was a little bit unintentionally racist. Over the years I believe I've matured enough to know that one does not judge another based on the color of their skin, but unfortunately for me- my children are still being raised in a culturally uncultured environment much like the one I grew up in. I took them with me to see the movie last week (three girls- 11,10,7) and although they can't really grasp everything that was going on in the movie to understand it like an adult would have, they still saw their mommy sit there and cry through most of it. Then they asked a million questions afterward, "Was that real life mommy?" Yes! Unfortunately it was and in some ways, it still is.It was a great moment for me to explain to my girls that they better never EVER act like they are better than anyone else. I'm not raising a Two Slice Hilly. ;)
