Worst Vacation Ever.
Ever listened to the 90′s song, ‘A New York Minute‘? The hook to the song is ’in a New York minute everything can change’. For some reason that song played in my head as I read the headlines of rioting, water cannons, and torched cars in London. Man. I was in London in July. The weather was unseasonably warm and spring like. The mood of the place was jovial. The tube was on time. Its sobering to think how quickly things change. The jovial is now fearful. Sobering to think how quickly men turn against men, cities against cities, and countries against countries. You have to wonder about the direction the world seems to take. I wonder, what would happen if God was a part of the resolution.
Maybe you’re not involved in a London street riot. Maybe its simply your life that feels torched. Ask this question: What if God was a part of that problem? Would the problem get better or worse?
What did you answer?

Pastoral Hair Dye
How about taking this quiz about graying hair:
- Are you a guy pastor who is over 40 years old?
- Do you have any graying hair on your head and/or face?
- Did you at one time…and now don’t?
I’ve noticed that there are less and less men with gray hair over the age of 40 preaching these days. I’ve been told that sales
professionals absolutely cannot show signs of age. It somehow makes the product they are repping seem less desirable. Does that mean that my graying hair diminishes baby Jesus? Don’t make baby Jesus cry. Dye your hair. I will not, and, do not. Wait. I did go straight blonde for a Student Ministry event. It was pretty much ‘Big Bird’ yellow. Scary. As a pastor, here is why nature is coloring my hair instead of Just for Men.
- I hate fake. I want to be transparent to the church I minister in. I’m over 40. Gray = distinguished right?
- The bible teaches us that ‘gray is ok!’ Check out this verse.
- Perfection city is a bad place to find residence for your hair. Go bald, go gray, just go with God leading you.
- We find pride leading in many different way. I am shooting for humility and its tough work.
It’s tempting to try to become something you are not. It’s so easy to do that with our outward appearance. Here is what we all know. Its how we take care of the inside that is the most important. Check your hearts condition both physically and more importantly spiritually. The core concern is the spiritual. Take good care of that and stop worrying if the colored away gray will help you sell a product, connect with a generation or make Jesus relevant. Truth always connects. Be truthful from the inside out.
Do you dye your hair? Why? Why not? (like any of you are going to admit you do…)
